Referring a patient to The Vein Care Center

For podiatrists, primary care physicians, wound care clinics, and dermatologists in the western suburbs and North Shore. We evaluate your patient with an in-office ultrasound and consultation in one visit, treat the vein in the office, and send you a written report. Your patient stays your patient.

When to refer

Leg symptoms that are not explained by the foot, the joint, or the skin are often venous. Refer when you see:

  • A lower-leg wound that has not healed in 2 to 3 weeks
  • Ankle or lower-leg edema without a cardiac or renal cause
  • Stasis dermatitis, hemosiderin staining, or lipodermatosclerosis
  • Symptomatic varicose veins (aching, heaviness, cramping, itching)
  • Superficial phlebitis or a bleeding varicosity
  • Failed conservative therapy (compression, elevation) after several weeks

What your patient gets

  • Venous duplex ultrasound and physician consultation in the same visit
  • A treatment plan based on the ultrasound, with insurance pre-determination handled by our office
  • In-office procedures: Varithena, endovenous laser ablation, micro-phlebectomy, sclerotherapy. No hospital, no general anesthesia
  • Two offices: Oak Park (Rush Medical Office Building) four days a week, Wilmette on Thursdays
  • A practice that answers its own phone

What you get back

  • A written consultation report with ultrasound findings and the treatment plan
  • Notification when treatment is complete
  • The patient returned to you for ongoing foot and wound care
